How Many Triangles Are There?

Pictures, Disassembly, Rebuild 9/28

Crate Flipper Idea
  • A metal bar with a prong coming out in order to latch onto a crate and then rotate 180 degrees to turn it
  • In order to lift the crate we could put it on treads and the treads could lift it upwards
  • However, the treads might not be able to lift that much weight
Problems:
  • We cant add too many connections to the treads also or else the device wont turn
  • We could put the device on an extension form the robot such as a second arm
  • Or we could just keep the device on the side of the robot and not consider stacking crates

Brain Storm Ideas For Our Design 9/21/11

Basic Design for the Robot:

  • Cubic
  • We would start by building a square base
  • Then, we would build on top of the base
Today we found out what we will do in order to collect the balls, how we will lift the crates, how we will score, and how we will potentially move the bowling ball up the ramp.

Jordan's idea for picking up the racket balls. Kind of like a snow blower or paddle boat.
Goals for next week: Take pictures of last years robot so we can make a 3D model of it. Break down last years robot, organize parts, and start rebuilding our new design. Make it modular (basic chassis design)  so in the up coming years we can easily disassemble, repair, or change the important features without having to start from the ground up.

Nick P's Fishing Rods

Nick P makes his own fishing poles. Really cool maybe I should try one of yours because I never catch anything.

Bernard's Google SketchUp

It's a wallpaper that I made with two jets that I designed (Google Sketchup), rendered (Kerkythea), and Photo Shopped. Enjoy! -Bernard

Robotics Essay

The essay should have and introduction body and conclusion. Two typed pages double spaced.

Questions to consider:
  1. Why do you want to be part of the robotics team?
  2. Why would you be a good addition to the team?
  3. What specific skills do you posses that would help the team?
  4. What does teamwork mean to you?
  5. What does "gracious professionalism" mean to you?

How High Can You Build - Day 2-Day 3

  1. How could you have made your tower easier to build upwards? What could you have done?
  2. Why did you choose the parts you did?
  3. Did you change your mind and redesign a specific part of your tower? Why?
  4. If these towers were build off site how would you transport them to their final place?
  5. What did you find difficult? Consider resources, time, other groups.
  6. What were some variables that made it difficult for you to build inside? How about outside?
  7. What part(s) failed? Why?
  8. How could you have made it stronger? Show me.

What's the Difference?

                      Morse Code                                                       Cell Phone

"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand."

Making connections across subjects is a personal goal of my technology classes. Technology is the missing "link" that holds math, science, history, literacy and society together. By completing this "chain" we develop a circle of information that is never ending. We are always learning from each other as well as our environment; no one is truly done learning. We just keep on adding "links" that make the chain larger and stronger. "Inquiry in education should be about a greater understanding of the world in which they live, learn, communicate, and work"- Joe Exline. Students need to seek out appropriate solutions to questions and problems while making a connection to society, their lives. Our modern society is technologically oriented, fast paced, globally connected, and calls for workers who can think critically and problem solve. We need to teach our students so they can thrive in the modern world.

The Beginning of the End

FIRST Robotics meeting of the season Wednesday September 14th! Here we go again!

Robotics Team goes to Center Street

The Robotics team went to Center Street to talk to the students about Inventions and Robotics. We all hope to see them in the future. What a great class, thank you Dori Cohen

1)  Why did you choose to design your supports this way?
2)  Why did your supports fail? Which ones failed?
3)  How could you have improved your design?
4)  Did you notice anything else?

Can you make a support out of just paper that can hold this many books?

And everything was going so well, what happened?

Thank you Monica for the pictures and her other group members Dan, Young, and Jennifer for a job well done!
